Is the Wii U a mistake? Pachter thinks so

“Analyst” Michael Pachter claims that the Wii U is a mistake Nintendo won’t be able to recover from. He says it’s not unique enough and that Nintendo has made a costly mistake trying to compete with smartphones and tablets… But we all know how his predictions have turned out.

“I think they misfired on the Wii U. It’s just not that different from the other two [existing] consoles, and the gameplay isn’t as unique as the Wii. They made a mistake, it’s something they probably can’t recover from.”

“I think they have made a costly mistake. And their handheld business can’t save them in the face of cannibalization from smartphones and tablets.”

Aliens: Colonial Marines on Wii U is Not Impressive

According to a game tester, the Wii U Aliens: Colonial Marines is the worst version- and that’s saying a lot, because the game has been received very poorly. This is what the tester has to say:

“Oh wow. Yes okay. I was hoping someone would ask this. I have played the WiiU version. The one that is supposedly the best of all of them? It is not. It is the worst. It is a bit of a joke. The WiiU is basically the same game as the console version but with framerate issues, worse texture loading, and horrendously misguided minigames thrown in. You get a ‘scanner’ to scan enemies and get bonus points that aid your harming them. When you cut open doors (which happens a lot in the game) you have a game where you have to keep the heat ‘optimal’. They just add frustration, and take away even more from the fun. We don’t know if it will come out, Sega are conisdering canceling it, but right now its still going.”

Little Inferno Permanent Price Reduction

Good news, Wii U fans! Little Inferno by Tomorrow Corporation is getting a permanent price cut from $14.99 to $9.99! I personally have not purchased this game yet. It looks interesting! If you have no idea what it is about, the point is to create combos by burning your toys. Sounds a bit creepy, right? It is.

Nintendo Direct Summaries

Wii U

There sadly was not much promised to Wii U fans this Nintendo Direct. 2013 has been coined “The        Year of Luigi,” a piece of information that is… um… not so exciting. We all love Luigi, but Nintendo needs to be focusing on new adventures. I’d love to see a new franchise!

Well, what else was announced? Here’s a brief recap:

  • There will be a new DLC for New Super Mario Bros. U featuring Luigi as the main character. You’ll be able to play through eighty alternative levels already found in the game. The release date and price is unknown.
  • There is now a Miiverse community specifically for Zelda fans! I’m glad we finally have a community not for an individual game. Maybe other franchises will follow suit.
  • Wii Street U has arrived in North America and is currently free! I recommend it!
  • Nintendo has announced some upcoming games:

  1. Runner 2-February 2013
  2. Zen Pinball-February 2013
  3. Toki Tori 2-March 2013
  4. Lego City Undercover-March 18th
  5. Need for Speed: Most Wanted U-March 19th
  6. Monster Hunter 3-March 19th
  7. The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct-March 20th
  8. Injustice: Gods Among Us-April 16th
  9. Disney Infinity-June 2013

What are you looking forward to most?

Nintendo 3DS

There’s lots of exciting news here!

First off is the North American release of Animal Crossing: New Leaf. This looks like the most drastic improvement between games I’ve seen so far! It’s coming out on June 9th and features some pretty awesome stuff. First of all, you are the mayor of your town. You can also design the layout of your town, where your house is, what it looks like, swim, sit on benches, and much more. It also includes a new section called “Main Street Boulevard” (redundant much?) that enables you to access every shop from one location. This is all very much anticipated!

nnd1Next up is Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, which is coming March 24th. The game will feature new mansions to explore, new abilities of the Poltergust gun, new critters, and an exciting new mode called “Polterpup Mode…” Hmm… What are your thoughts?

nnd2Next is the strange-looking Mario and Luigi Dream Team game. It’s coming this summer and looks very… interesting. The goal of the game is to get different reactions from a sleeping Luigi. The setting is this shy person’s dreams- and we all know how weird dreams can get. Take a look at this screen shot that looks more like it belongs in a horror film (World War Z, anyone?) than a children’s game:

Next up is the Mario Golf World Tour game. It’s coming this summer, and not much is known as of yet. Stay tuned.

In other news, there are new DLC packs for Fire Emblem: Awakening that are on discount. Lego City: The Chase Begins has also been announced, as well as HarmoKnight (March 28th, eShop), Kersploosh (March 7th, eShop), and Dillon’s Rolling Western- The Last Ranger (April 11th, eShop). Harvest Moon and The River King, both Gameboy Color titles, will be available on Virtual Console soon.

Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move is also coming to the 3DS. Looks pretty interesting.

Last but not least, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D is coming to the 3DS soon. It will feature improvements to 3D gameplay. There is currently a video for it on the eShop, so be sure to head over there and check it out!
